Finding Books

Books are important sources of basic information on a topic, providing necessary definitions, background information, and statistics. They can provide a foundation for research which can be supplemented by more current information from journal articles. Books also often contain useful bibliographies which may lead to additional research  material. To locate books, use DELCAT Discovery, the Library catalog. 

Sample subject terms that might be of use when searching DELCAT Discovery are:

nutritional diseases obesity, nutrition
diet therapy, children eating disorders
vitamin therapy disease, digestive system
metabolic diseases cookbooks
nutrition, food supply weight management

Browsing the Stacks

The UD Library uses the Library of Congress Classification System to arrange books and print journals on the shelves. This system uses letters and numbers to complete the Call Number. A call number is like an address: it tells us where the book is located in the library.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan service is available to University of Delaware faculty, students, and staff.
