The Census Bureau is not able to collect data on the homeless. Data are gathered on the population of emergency and transitional shelters.

This report covers the nation, regions, and states and includes breakdowns by sex and age groups.

According to the 2014 U.S. Census Bureau ACS study 27% of all African American men, women and children live below the poverty level compared to just 11% of all Americans.
