What is a NAICS code?

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), pronounced Nakes, was developed by federal agencies to use when classifying business establishments for the collection, analysis, and publication of statistical data.

Use the NAICS Search box to find NAICS codes by keyword (left-hand side) and further information. 

Examples of NAICS Codes for Apparel Industries include:
448120, Women's Clothing Stores   
448150, Clothing Accessories Stores
448140, Family Clothing Stores

The Bureau of Labor Statistic defines the Retail Trade sector as comprising of establishments engaged in retailing merchandise, generally without transformation, and rendering services incidental to the sale of merchandise.

The clothing and clothing accessories stores sub-sector consists of these industry groups:
      Clothing Stores: NAICS 4481
      Shoe Stores: NAICS 4482
      Jewelry, Luggage, and Leather Goods Stores: NAICS 4483
