Welcome to the guide for Delaware history.
Court House, New Castle, Delaware, 1682. (Postcard, c. 1907). This was the Colonial Capitol where annual Assemblies met until 1776 and all Courts convened until 1882. From the University of Delaware Library Postcard Collection.
Delaware was the first state to ratify the proposed constitution of the United States. The date of the ratification, December 7, 1787, appears on both the state flag and the Delaware seal.
When researching historical events, it may be useful to know what day of the week the event occurred. To find this out, consult a perpetual calendar.
