The WPA (Work Projects Administration) was the agency responsible for the work relief program of the New Deal Administration. It set out to put to work the millions of Americans who were unemployed as a result of the Stock Market crash of October 1929 and the economic depression which followed. This collection of the papers of the WPA illustrate the breadth of issues tackled in the arts, professional activities, and public administration. (Coverage: 1933-1943)
