Finding Scholarly Journal Articles

Choose databases related to your topic to do specialized research. Most of these databases will include scholarly, peer-reviewed articles as well as news, magazine, or trade journal articles. You can use the filter in the database to sort between types of articles.

This video outlines how to search and access sources in a database.

Finding Books

When searching for books in DELCAT Discovery, use search terms that represent large-scale issues related to your topic rather than the local environment. For example, if you are interested in the experience of first-generation college students at the University of Delaware, don't include University of Delaware in your search. You will be able to find books that address the issue as a whole, and then you can apply that information to the local context.

Watch this short tutorial video for an overview of searching for books in DELCAT Discovery.
