HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service

HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS)

Due to the suspension of access to physical collections at many libraries, HathiTrust developed the ETAS (Emergency Temporary Access Service) to provide online access to titles within the HathiTrust collection which are in copyright. As a Partner Institution, the University of Delaware Library is able to provide access to those books for which the UD Library owns a print copy. For UD, that is more than 500,000 items.

These books are fully searchable in DELCAT Discovery - by author, title, subject, keyword - with links which connect to the full-text item in HathiTrust.

NOTE: This service is available only to current UD faculty, students and staff.

To take advantage of this service:

  • Search DELCAT Discovery for the book you are interested in and click on the View eBook link to get to HathiTrust.
  • Log in using your UDelNet credentials.
  • Click on the Check Out link in the orange bar to read the item through ETAS.
  • You will have 60 minutes of access to the book during any session. If you remain active in the book during any session, access time will be extended. You may only read it online. Printing and downloading are not available. This is to protect the author’s rights.

Additional information is available at: ETAS: Information for Users. Included at this site are Highlights of the Service and Frequently Asked Questions.
