Finding Primary Sources
- When searching for reviews, start broadly by searching for the title of the work within a few years of its original publication or release.
- Use historical language appropriate to the time period.
Finding Secondary Sources (Scholarly Articles)
- When searching for scholarship about a particular work or author, start broadly by searching the title or name. Depending on how much you find, you can add additional keywords to focus on particular aspects of the work.
- When searching for scholarship about issues related to the Beat Generation or 1960s counterculture, brainstorm terms related to main issues. Perform a variety of searches using multiple keyword combinations.
