Zotero

General Troubleshooting

Zotero has their own Discussion Forum where anyone with a Zotero account can post questions to problems and receive an answer from a trusted Zotero moderator. The Discussion Forum is a good first stop to see if other people have experienced similar problems - the solution will be posted there. Here at UD we recommend checking the Forum BEFORE contacting us to see if your problem has a solution already. Since we do not work for Zotero, Librarians at UD will first look up the issue in Zotero Discussions to see if has been resolved.

If you are still having problems, you are welcome to reach out to us.

Problems Connecting to Content via Zotero?

We have discovered that some Zotero users are encountering issues accessing library material in their Zotero libraries. Because Zotero captured this information through your browser connector, Zotero is remembering our old proxy system, EZProxy, and is not recognizing your UD affiliation. If order to properly provide access to Library content, you have to disable your proxy redirection in your Zotero settings.

To disable the proxy redirection, follow these steps:

  1. First, delete the Zotero Connector plug-in and reinstall it in your browser.
  2. Once it is reinstalled, go to your Zotero Connector in your browser and click on the "Options" category. Either right-click or click on the three dots to find the menu with this option.
  3. This will open a new screen. Click on the option for "Proxies." Then unclick the check box that says "Disable proxy redirection when my domain name contains."
  4. Exit out of the window. Your changes will save automatically.

Please note, you may need to manually change some URLs in your Zotero Library that have the EZProxy prefix. To learn more about how to update your links, visit the OpenAthens research guide for more information.
