DaVinci Resolve
DaVinci Resolve is a free, sophisticated video-editing software available for Mac and PC. While it has many advanced features, you can learn a few basics to make a great video.
DaVinci Resolve 18 is available in the Student Multimedia Design Center and available for download on your personal computer.
Navigating DaVinci Resolve
DaVinci Resolve uses a page system to walk you through your video project. At the very bottom of DaVinci Resolve you will see a menu of tabs. Each of these tabs specializes in one stage of the video production process.
- DaVinci Resolve- Getting StartedAn overview of the DaVinci Resolve interface, how to start a project, and tips for basic editing.
- DaVinci Resolve- Media PageThe Media page is where you will import media files into DaVinci Resolve and organize those files into folders called bins. You can also view, add, and edit metadata for your media files.
- DaVinci Resolve- Cut PageThe Cut page is where your video project takes shape. When you create a new project, you always start in the Cut page. The Cut page is intended to be a more streamlined and user-friendly place to start assembling your video project.
- DaVinci Resolve- Edit PageThe Edit page is all about editing tools to fine tune your video project.
- DaVinci Resolve- Fusion PageThe Fusion page is a powerful visual effects and 3D compositing tool. Fusion uses a system of nodes to order chains of effects to media.
For most course-related video project assignments, you do not need to use the Fusion, Color, or Fairlight pages to make a great video.
