Finding Material Related to Sexuality in DELCAT

  • When searching DELCAT, always start by conducting a keyword search for your specific topic, and then broaden your search to find additional material. For example, if you were researching the Stonewall riots of 1969, you could search for Stonewall Riot. For additional materials, you could search for gay liberation movement--history.
  • To obtain book-length autobiographies and biographies, search using the individual's name as a subject. For example, to locate books about Audre Lorde, you would use the advanced search and select the Subject Field when searching for Audre Lorde.  A broader topic to search would be:  lesbian authors--united states--biography.
  • To limit your search to primary source materials, search using words that pertain to the format of the material. Format terms include: correspondence, diaries, letters, manuscripts, narratives, papers, sources and speeches. A sample keyword search: lesbians AND diaries.
