If you are investigating social, environmental or political topics, check out some of these databases for ideas on current issues:

Selecting a Research Topic

There are two rules for choosing a research topic.  First, pick something that interests you!  You will probably do a lot of reading and writing about the topic you choose, so dealing with a topic of interest is key. Look for a compelling or particularly exciting angle on a topic so that you and your readers do not lose interest.  Second, be sure to select a topic that is not too broad or too narrow in focus, but has enough information for you to write a paper.  For example:

Broad topic:      Social networking
Narrow topic:       Social networking and politics
Narrower topic:    Social networking and politics and students
Too narrow:    Social networking and politics and students and University of Delaware
