Historical Census data can often be harder to find. The Census has changed over time. The following sources will help you find the information you need:
- IPUMS NHGISThe National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) provides easy access to summary tables and time series of population, housing, agriculture, and economic data, along with GIS-compatible boundary files, for years from 1790 through the present and for all levels of U.S. census geography, including states, counties, tracts, and blocks.
- Decennial Census PublicationsThe Census Bureau has digitized the historical print volumes and made them available in PDF.
- ICPSR U.S. Census DataThe University of Delaware has institutional access to ICPSR through Central IT. You must create or log into your account before accessing the data collection.
