Special Collections: African American Studies Research Guide

This collection comprises eleven documents regarding the military career of Winfield Scott Hancock, particularly his involvement in the execution of accused Lincoln assassination conspirator, Mary Surratt, his brief command of the fifth military district (Louisiana and Texas) during Reconstruction, and biographical material which highlights his military career during the Civil War.

Consists of one handwritten manuscript by John H. Stevens in which he gives an eyewitness account of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Corrected galley of an article in the Times Literary Supplement, which consists of four pages with ink notations in John Carter's hand. With two photocopies of the front page of the auction catalog from Parke-Bernet Galleries, April 27, 1949, titled "Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The Unique and Final Holograph Manuscript Known as 'Bliss Copy'."

This collection consists of the Carl Sandburg files kept by BMI president and radio pioneer Carl Haverlin (1899-1985) spanning the years 1909-1964. Series II includes material toward the publication of Lincoln's Devotional, for which Carl Sandburg wrote the introduction.

Documents (18 items) in the University of Delaware's Lincoln Collection that contain Abraham Lincoln's original signature or other autograph writing, including rare signed copy of "A Resolution," submitting the Thirteenth Amendment to the States. Part of a much larger collection of Lincolniana that came to the University from the Lincoln Club of Delaware in 1972.

The Abraham Lincoln collection comprises a variety of Lincolniana - including Civil War era newspapers, art work, sheet music, and realia - collected and assembled by the Lincoln Club of Delaware.
